The Rotary Club of Needham held its third annual Rotary Music Awards on Saturday night at Powers Hall and once again drew a big crowd to see talented student, adult, and professional musicians from around the area perform.
Alissa Musto was the winner of the Open Category and for the second year in a row Needham High a cappella group, The Subway Dwarves, took top prize in the student category.
It was a night filled with amazing music that ranged across genres. There was something for everyone, from a cappella favorites to electronic music to “world music.”
In the student category, the Subway Dwarves competed against Needham High indie-pop band Brontide, alternative rock band Tetrachromacy (also from Needham High), and electronic music producer Killr Pone, who made his live debut at the event.
The open category featured Musto competing against the Regis College Chamber Singers, Sayem Khan, who will be releasing an EP soon, and the Babson College Rocket Pitches.
Each of the acts performed for the judges and to earn the crowd’s vote as the best on the night. The Rotary Club will be making a donation in the winners’ names to a local music charity.
It was another great night of music in Needham, showcasing the local talent in this area.
