Hosted through the Medfield Public Library (MPL), Bri Ozanne, the adult librarian, holds Word Games with Friends twice a month at the Medfield State Hospital Grounds (now often referred to as The Bellforge). Guests are encouraged to bring a chair to meet up for an hour of fun with low-key word games and make new friends!
The group plays a wide variety of games such as Scattergories, 25 Words of Less, Balderdash, and as for their last meeting, the group played Pun Intended. Each meeting brings a different game with It so the rules are reviewed at the beginning of the program, as both a refresher and a lesson to those who have never played the game before.
The group starts meeting during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to stay connected and pass the grueling hours that everyone was stuck at home. Once restrictions had lessened, the group moved from Zoom to meeting at the Bellforge. However, the area is so nice the group still meets here today. Ozanne shared that the group will meet there as long as it’s nice enough to be outside! Otherwise, the group will convene in the MPL community room.
“Now we get to meet in person and play real games which is way more fun!” Ozanne shared happily. The group clearly enjoyed the company of one another, as they shared many laughs under the end of the summer sun.
The group meets year round; once a month on Monday morning and once a month on Tuesday afternoon. If you’re interested, please visit www.medfieldpubliclibrary.org for further information. It’s so much fun playing word games with friends, so be sure to check it out!
