The history of the local and wider Medfield community is in many ways buried in the past at Vine Lake Cemetery’s Old Section. Vine Lake Preservation Trust has recently launched a new mobile application and website enhancement, mapping each of these gravesites on satellite maps, and linking the memories and histories of the individuals interred there.
At either Apple or Android app stores, you can download the Trust’s free mobile app, or you can visit www.vinelakepreservationtrust.org to search the burial records. The Old Section has been mapped in Google Maps so that visitors using the mobile app can have GPS navigation directly to the graves for which they are looking, and view the memories, stories, photos, and videos shared by friends and family. Submissions can be made through the memorial pages on the Trust’s website.
The Trust’s mobile application also offers walking tours of landmarks throughout the cemetery, the initial one being ‘Walk Among The Shadows.’
“Today, we are asking local and wider community members to contribute to this history project. The Trust welcomes anyone to send us information or photos of someone buried in the Old Section,” said Rob Gregg, Trust president. “Together, we can collect and preserve the history of our community. Every life story should be remembered, and now it can be.”
“Our new mapping and mobile application is making navigation of the Old Section so much easier for our guests. We plan to bring to life our history and memories of loved ones through the sharing photos and stories,” said Gregg. “As visitors search our records on our website, they can share memories, stories, photos, videos on the memorial pages of their loved ones. Their submissions are published in our mobile app so that the story is geo-referenced to the physical grave space.”
Vine Lake Preservation Trust’s project is powered by webCemeteries.com, a cemetery technology company in Pennsylvania working with hundreds of cemeteries across the United States.
“I have numerous relatives buried at the cemetery,” said Sharon Gillis, a Pratt family descendant and Medfield resident. “This app makes finding their locations much easier, and it means so much to me that I can share their memory in this way.”
To download the free mobile app, search for “Vine Lake” at the app store.
