The Olympics have sparked inspiration in athletes’ eyes since their beginning in 1896. Today, that spark finds itself in the Medfield Public Library during an event called Super Creations.
Open to any and all, Super Creations is a weekday event from 3-5 p.m. that extends from June 27 to August 19. The event gives kids the chance to get creative and have fun making interesting crafts. Inspired by the Olympics, the national theme of all libraries for the summer reading program, Super Creations is about all things sports, fitness, and games.
Participants like Martha have had the opportunity to cheer on Team USA with her beautiful purple version of the American flag that she made upstairs in the Children's Program Room. She had the chance to add fun decorations like stickers and a straw for a flagpole. Martha and many others have been taking advantage of this opportunity to keep cool in the library and make awesome crafts such as medals, trophies, and of course, pennants.
On the tables in the Children's Program Room, there are simple craft instructions to follow, as well help from volunteers. This, of course, is in addition to plenty of materials to make the craft your own and add personal touches. Linnea Whiting, a volunteer and student of Medfield Public Schools, has been helping out for a few days now and says that the Olympic theme of Super Creations is “a fun idea," and that "You can come in and cheer on Team USA."
The Medfield Public Library offers other wonderful opportunities during the summer to have fun and meet friends. Events such as Pattycake Place from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. or Lunch Bunch from 11:30 to 12:30 a.m., both on August 11, are going to be a blast.
