After hearing some songs of the “Top 100” radio stations, rock fanatics may worry about the future of their beloved music genre and culture. But fear not, for Stacey Peasley has combined rock and children’s music, which inspires an enjoyment for rock and its subgenres. Peasley, a critically acclaimed children’s musician, appeared live in concert with her band on Thursday, August 10, at Medfield’s weekly summer concert.
The concert, hosted by Beginning Years Child Development Center and New’N Towne, provided a relaxed, outdoor family concert for Medfield and the surrounding area’s communities. Families brought picnic blankets, lawn chairs, and food to the grassy area next to the library and gazebo as they enjoyed the beautiful weather and live music. Peasley, an original songwriter from Natick, crafts songs that will engage and entertain children with their catchy lyrics and irresistible beats.
As the Stacey Peasley Band began their performance, Peasley reminded the children crowded in front of the gazebo that she highly encouraged dancing. “Let’s travel around the galaxy together,” said Peasley, as she began her song, “Rocketship.” The children jumped around and danced, while others played in the grassy area where their families were sitting. As she finished the song, Peasley promised that an animated video for “Rocketship” would be coming to the web sometime in September.Peasley performed songs that children of all ages could relate to, including one about getting bigger as one grows up, called “Every Day,” and another about shopping at the toy store, called “Find A Way.”
“What’s really nice is that they introduce rock and roll to the younger kids,” said Lesley Kennally of Holliston, who came to the concert to support the band. “It’s really just a wonderful community event.” For parents, the band provided an environment for them to socialize and relax while their children danced and listened to good-hearted children’s music with a rock and roll twist.
Peasley, who was a teacher for several years, spent the evening sharing her passion for children and music. As she prepared to perform her song, “Catching Joy,” Peasley said, “This one is about what you guys do best: love each other, be happy, and find joy. So let’s sing in the spirit of all those wonderful things.”
Throughout the entire evening, Peasley delivered an atmosphere of positivity and energy for all of the Medfield concertgoers to catch joy in.
