On Saturday, December 12, Medfield residents went outside their homes to find the sounds of sirens and laughter. In the passenger seat of Medfield's Engine 2, Santa Claus waved to people as he drove with his parading town vehicle escorts through town.
This celebration comes after the traditional MEMO holiday parade was canceled. Instead, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus made their way through every neighborhood in Medfield. A notice posted on the MEMO website noted: "The MEMO parade might be canceled but that hasn't stopped Santa from paying us a visit." The route for the event was also released in this notice, making it easy for families to plan to be outside and catch the Claus.
Parents used social media to follow Santa's journey. One Facebook user asked if residents could help alert their other neighbors about Santa's location as he made his way around town so kids and their families did not have to stand outside during the dreary weather for very long. By the end of the three hours, the post had over 100 comments, with residents helping one another keep track of Santa.
