The Medfield Public Library (MPL) hosts an annual trivia night with varying themes. This year trivia night was welcoming in fall with the library’s “It’s Fall Y’all” social and trivia night. The Daily Room was decorated with autumnal colors to ring in the cooler months.
Before trivia started participants were invited to mingle about and partake in fall snacks. This allowed friends to catch up and begin to form teams for trivia. After mingling five teams were formed to face off in fall-related trivia. This year ran like bar trivia, with each round having a handout of questions or photo clues.
The first round was a speed round that asked teams to identify famous authors carved into pumpkins. These included horror icon Steven King, “Game of Thrones” writer George R.R. Martin, Mark Twain and many more. The next round challenged teams to label fall-themed poems and their authors. Laughter and light-hearted arguments filled the room as team members disagreed on proper titles while other groups utilized the ‘guessing can’t hurt’ method.
The next round asked trivia questions about a few fall-adjacent books and series. One set of questions asked about the origins of “Cinderella”, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “The Wizard of Oz” series. These questions required a lot of teamwork to think up author and character names, and what actors appeared in adaptations. Groups put their heads together to work out how many books L. Frank Baum wrote or what happened to the step-sisters in the Brothers Grimm retellings.
The last round was filling in book titles that included the word “Fall” in some form. This was one of the more fun rounds as when a group did not have an answer they took a shot with something humorous just to try. Some of the titles included “Falling Up” by Shel Silverstein and “Snow Falling on Cedars” by David Guterson. This final round amped up the energy as everyone was attempting to take home a small prize and bragging rights. Once trivia had subsided and the three winning teams had chosen their prizes the night ended with more mild minging as the night wrapped up.
This was the Medfield Public Library’s third annual trivia night and it was just as big of a hit as the previous years. It left people excited for their fall reading and the new friends they had made during the night.
