On May 4, Medfield won’t know what hit it when Grace Kelly, a high-energy, inspirational and sell-out 25-year-old sax player and vocalist headlines Jazz Night with the award-winning Medfield High School Jazz Band and Jazz Choir, and Blake Middle School Jazz Bands.
Grace Kelly will be the first-ever female guest artist and vocalist for Medfield Jazz Night. Since writing her first song at age seven, Kelly has performed more than 800 concerts in 30-plus countries, and has shared the stage with a long list of luminaries, including Jon Batiste on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Boston POPs, Harry Connick Jr., Wynton Marsalis, Lin Manuel and Gloria Estefan, plus hundreds of others. The recipient of numerous awards and recognition for saxophone, vocals and songwriting, Kelly also has 11 CDs to her name -- including “Trying to Figure it Out,” voted #2 Jazz Album of the Year in 2016 Downbeat Magazine Readers Poll, according to her website, gracekellymusic.com.
The Medfield community is encouraged to purchase Jazz Night tickets in advance at Park Street Books, Needham Bank, or online via Medfieldmusicassociation.com (or direct from Network for Good at http://bit.ly/2pP4BZE), as this year’s event is expected to be a sold-out show. Tickets are $10 per person general admission through May 3, and $15 at the door on May 4 if still available. The concert begins at 7 p.m.; doors open at about 6:40 p.m.
The event is also supported by a generous grant from the Medfield Cultural Council, the local arm of the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Medfield Music Director Doug Olsen is especially excited about having Kelly on board, noting, “Not only will Grace’s instrumental and vocal talents inspire our students across more jazz ensembles than ever this year, but her high-energy performance is guaranteed to be a show stopper for everyone in attendance. This is a Jazz Night not to miss!”
