It was all things pumpkin at the Pfaff Community Center in Medfield this past Wednesday, October 18th. Little ones filed in to participate in an array of different activities, all relating to the very popular children’s Halloween movie, “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”
Ms. Ana was seen running the show, helping kiddos out with each activity she had planned. To start off the evening, everyone got to make their very own not-so-scary halloween stick puppets. Each child was given two popsicle sticks, one with a blue monster on it and one with a pink monster. Using a variety of stickers, youngins were able to create their unique monsters and take them home with them at the end!
After completing their ‘terrifying’ monsters, it was time to head to the pumpkin patch to pick up their own pumpkin. While there is no real pumpkin patch on site, Ms. Ana created their personal and unique one using paper leaves and real pumpkins! Each child took turns picking out whichever pumpkin they liked the best and returned it to their seats.
Once all the pumpkins were officially picked, it was time to play a Charlie Brown Pumpkin game! Before heading out into the hallway, Ms. Ana explained the instructions for the game, “Now boys and girls, we are going to be playing a very fun pumpkin game, and that game is called ‘Don’t Knock Down My Pumpkins!’. I think it is going to be very fun! Out in the hall, we have some pumpkins and we also have some balls. So we are going to have two houses, backyard houses. We are going to have Snoopy’s backyard and we are going to have Charlie Brown’s backyard. And each of you are going to protect Charlie Brown or Snoopy's pumpkins from being knocked down. Because Snoopy wants to knock down all of Charlie Brown’s pumpkins and Charlie Brown wants to knock down all of Snoopy’s pumpkins!”
The little ones could not have been more excited for the game to commence. Once the game had started, they all threw the balls as best as they could to knock down the pumpkins set up on each side. The game was arranged just like dodgeball, except their goal was to hit the pumpkins, not each other!
After all their energy had been expelled, it was time to head back into the room and start decorating their pumpkins. Ms. Ana set up different monster stickers that the kiddos could decorate using some more stickers. When they had completed their stickers, they could place them on the pumpkins however they pleased!
With all the pumpkins happily decorated, it was time to make a yummy snack for movie time! Ms. Ana showed the kiddos how to make a popcorn hand with candy corn fingernails using a plastic glove. Taking the plastic glove, little ones would put a candy corn at the bottom of each finger. Next, they would fill the rest of the glove with popcorn. Just like that, they created a delicious snack to eat while watching the movie, “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”
When it came time for pickup, all in attendance got to leave with their puppets and pumpkins. It can be said with ease that this party was a huge success and got everyone into the Halloween spirit!
