Good times on the green

It was a spectacular opener for Medfield Public Library’s (MPL) seasonal event “Storytime on the Green” last Thursday, May 18th. Despite being a tad chilly, the sun was shining bright and lots of children showed up with their grown-ups ready to listen, sing and have fun!

As attendees picked out spots to sit on the grassy field, Bernadette Foley, the Head of Children’s Services, started things off with a warm hello. She explained that they were hoping to have as many outdoor story times throughout the summer as possible, but if it was ever too cold or rainy they would move it indoors. Either way, the best thing to do was to look for the red chair on the grassy area behind the gazebo, which will display a sign if the event is moved indoors.

Miss Bernadette also had an announcement for the group: “June 10th is going to be my last here at MPL. I am going to be leaving to be the children’s librarian at Westborough Public Library, which is very close to my house instead of a 50-minute drive…I wasn’t planning on leaving, ever, but this opportunity came to my doorstep, literally.”

After some sad looks and comments, story time began with a sweet “hello” song. Next, Ms. Foley read two amusing stories and led the crowd through several other songs including “The Wheels on the Bus” and “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom”. The group enthusiastically danced and clapped along.

If you want a chance to say goodbye to Miss Bernadette, her last story times will be on June 8th and 9th. The Hometown Weekly thanks her for being so incredibly welcoming to us over the last decade. We wish you the very best in Westborough!

Storytime on the Green takes place Thursdays and Fridays now through August 18th. There are two sessions to choose from: 10:15am or 11:15am. Blankets are highly encouraged, but the library offers a few soft yoga mats if anyone forgets. Find more fun events like this one at medfieldpubliclibrary.org.
