Food Cupboard faces shortages, spearheads drive

Since the onset of the COVID crisis, the Medfield Food Cupboard has worked diligently and successfully to continue its mission of providing supplemental and emergency food to Medfield residents in need.

Now six weeks into the quarantine, the Food Cupboard is facing a shortage of several essential shelf stable food items. “While we continue to purchase food from Roche Bros, Shaw’s and the Greater Boston Food Bank, we are currently unable to acquire a sufficient quantity of these items for our clients,” noted Director of Food Donations Abby Marble of the Food Cupboard. “In light of these shortages, we are reaching out to our Medfield neighbors for their support through a month-long, targeted food drive starting on April 20.”

Needed items are tuna, hearty soups, bags/boxes of white rice, canned fruit, and jelly. “While shopping for their families, either in the grocery store or on-line, we are asking folks to purchase these items for our clients,” continued Marble. “So many residents have reached out, asking how they can help. As always, we are grateful for their committed support. Our town is truly remarkable.”

The food drive will run from through May 20. A trailer provided by the Department of Public Works will be parked in front of the Public Safety Building in which donations can be dropped off. “Our thanks to the DPW and to Police Chief Michelle Guerette for facilitating this drive for us.”
