Nice weather, green grass, friendship and crafts. What more could an adult ask for? For those interested in these enticing offers look no further than the Medfield Library’s Outdoor Adult Craft and Chat hosted on the grounds of Medfield State Hospital.
This event happens a few times a month and offers the perfect spot for people to work on their own projects. Everyone gathers under the trees on blankets and chairs to work and chat for a few hours. Anyone and any craft is welcome, but it's much easier to take something portable. Many people work on knitting or embroidery although there are no limits.
The conversation always starts with checks in on each patron and what everyone is working on. A few regular members keep tabs on what everyone is working on and enjoy seeing the progress between meetings. There is also a lot of swapping ideas and materials during these gatherings and talk about upcoming craft-related events at the library.
This is a great way to get into crafting or finally finish up a project that has been sitting untouched for a while. Meeting outside can stir up the creative juices and inspire new ideas and being around other crafters can help get into the groove of working. Most times there are several people working on the same hobby, or who are educated on other crafts which makes it a great time to ask for help if just starting out.
Dogs are also welcomed if they are well-behaved and friendly. A few members regularly bring their pups who sniff around everyone's supplies while they work. Everyone is friendly and welcoming of new people, and there is no cap on attendance because of the location. There is no better time to join than now, as summer winds to a close.
These meetings are held twice monthly and there is no registration needed. More information and a map of where to meet can be found on the Medfield Library website. Grab some supplies and make new adult friends with shared passions.
