Amilia’s Light will host its Annual Garden Party on Saturday, June 4 from 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at the home of Founder and President, Michelle Luhrmann, 26 Loeffler Lane in Medfield. This event promises to be an enchanted evening under the stars filled with fun, food, beverages, raffle, silent auction, dancing and live music, featuring the local band, the South Street Six.

Amilia’s Light’s mission is to raise awareness about the global epidemic of human trafficking. The foundation raises money to provide support, guidance, and financial assistance to organizations that work to rescue, rehabilitate, heal, and empower victims of exploitation. Thanks to many generous donors, the foundation enjoyed great success last year and surpassed its donation goal. It is looking forward to continuing this momentum at its largest fundraising event on June 4th.

Amilia’s Light was established in memory of Michelle’s daughter, Amilia, who tragically passed away in 2003 in a home explosion in New Hampshire. In a blog written on what would have been Amilia’s 18th birthday, Michelle wrote: “While you were only with us five short years, your shining light lives on in the legacy created in your name.” The nonprofit is named in tribute to Amilia’s favorite song, “This Little Light Of Mine,” and UCC Medfield’s Pastor Phil Bauman’s description of Amilia as “10,000 watts of light.”

“She was that child that truly lit up a room and made you smile. Now her light continues to shine through as we embark on our first program, a joint partnership with Destiny Women-Uganda, called 10,000 Lights Women’s Business Center. The social enterprise will provide a safe haven for former victims to continue to heal while learning basic business skills, financial literacy and forging a path to freedom. These young women will gain confidence with each passing day, learn more about themselves – their strengths, their weaknesses, their courage, their grit and their power to provide for themselves and their families. We are so grateful to our supporters who want to help us find a path to end modern slavery,” said Michelle Luhrmann, Founder.
