To the Editor:
I want to publicly thank the Dover fire and police for rescuing a neighbor's dog recently.
The dog went onto the ice on the Charles River and halfway fell into the frigid water and was desperately holding onto the ice with its front legs and howling in fear.
The police and fire department staff came swiftly and a fire fighter put on a dry suit and a harness with a rope attached to another firefighter and crawled out onto the ice to rescue the dog.
The dog growled but was able to be lifted out of the water and brought to dry land.
Several days before, another neighbor noticed what he thought might be a suspicious vehicle going towards the river on the Boston College retreat center property.
Two police cars came immediately and checked out the area and all was fine.
Thank you very much, our Dover Fire and Police departments!
