Boy Scouts of America, Troop 1, Sherborn, invites friends and neighbors from Sherborn to attend an Eagle Court of Honor for Samuel D. Stone. Sam has recently completed all the requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout and will receive the award at the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony to be held on Sunday, May 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the Pilgrim Church in Sherborn. The rank of Eagle is the highest award in Scouting and is earned by less than 4% of Scouts.

Sam earned at least 21 different merit badges, including 13 Eagle-required badges. He has also performed many hours of community service and has organized and carried out an Eagle Leadership Service Project for the community with help from fellow scouts in Troop 1.

Sam’s Eagle Project involved replacing a rotted and dangerous access bridge on Sherborn’s Bailey Trail. With the help of others, Sam built and installed the new bridge.

In addition, Sam has held numerous Leadership positions within the troop and has participated in high-adventure activities.

Sam is the latest Eagle Scout from Sherborn Boy Scout Troop 1, which has been serving the town of Sherborn for over 80 years. The troop is comprised of boys from grades 6 through 12 and is led by an elected Senior Patrol Leader. The troop is supported by many active adult volunteers and is financially self-supporting.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and to prepare them to make ethical choices over their lifetime to achieve their full potential.

Members of the community are encouraged to join the Scouts at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, at Pilgrim Church in Sherborn to congratulate Sam on his outstanding achievement and to thank him for his contributions to our community.
