Last Friday, varsity swim went up against the Medfield Warriors at Blue Hills Regional Technical School for their first meet of the year. The last time they met the Warriors, the Raiders’ boys’ and girls’ teams were both victorious, with the girls winning the previous year as well.

Last year, the girls had an undefeated 8–0 season and the boys’ team was 4–2. The girls’ closest call was their final meet when they beat the Dedham Marauders 91–89. The Raiders and Marauders will face each other next on January 26th. The boys’ closest score was when they lost to the Holliston Panthers 87–92 and will look for redemption on January 12th. Medfield had a 2–6 season for the girls’ team and a 1–5 for the boys’.

This time, the girls’ team beat the Warriors 100–76. They took first place in the first two races, the 200 yard medley relay and the 200 yard freestyle. The Warriors got their first win in the 200 yard individual medley, but the Raiders responded in the next two events, the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly. Medfield then took first place in the 100 yard freestyle before the Raiders won the 500 yard freestyle, the 200 yard freestyle relay, the 100 yard backstroke, the 100 yard breaststroke, and finally the 400 yard freestyle relay.

The boys’ team won 79–61, beginning with a win in the 200 yard freestyle. The Warriors came back with first place in the 200 yard individual medley and 50 yard freestyle. They then alternated, the 100 yard butterfly going to the Raiders, the 100 yard freestyle to the Warriors, and then the 500 yard freestyle to the Raiders. The 200 yard freestyle relay, the 100 yard backstroke, and the 100 yard breaststroke went to Medfield, and Dover-Sherborn finished the event with a win in the 400 yard freestyle.

Tomorrow at 4:00, the Raiders will have their second meet on the road at Westwood High School. Last year, Westwood’s girls’ team was 4–4 and lost to the Raiders 76–98, but the boys were 6–0 and beat Dover-Sherborn 100–77. Then on Monday the 19th at 4:00, they will go to Babson College to face the Ashland Clockers, who last season were 1–5 (girls’) and 0–5 (boys’). At their meet last year, Dover-Sherborn girls’ beat the Clockers 91–75 and the boys’ 77–56.
