Returning for their second annual event, Powisset Farm hosted the Westwood COA for an open house on Wednesday, July 12th. Seniors were welcomed to explore the property while snacking on some elegant snacks from the farm and sipping on some refreshing wine.
Although the weather was a scorching 90 degrees, it did not stop these seniors from enjoying an incredible summer night. Powisset Farm, located in Dover, is an organic farm that has many farm animals and amazing local produce. Much of this produce can be found for sale in their store along with other local products. For this occasion, Powisset Farms offered those in attendance a 10% discount on everything found in the store.
In regards to this, Trustees’ staff member, D.A. Hayden explained, “It is a very special farm store. Everything in the store is from our farm or a regional farm. It is made by women or minority makers, there are lots of women’s products here that are handmade by them. And they have to be sustainable. So the toys you’ll see are recycled plastic, the dish linens are recycled.
Everything is really carefully curated. And of course we have some gorgeous vegetables fresh from the farm, harvested today. Take a look at those and please enjoy the store and the property.”
The relationship between the Westwood COA and Powisset Farm is a very special one.
According to the Director of Westwood Council on Aging, Lina Arena-DeRosa, “We work very closely with our partnership with Powisset, it is very unique. We do cooking classes here, we also buy wholesale [their vegetables] and we deliver them to homebound, at-risk seniors. We do lots of other things with them and honestly, from the bottom of my heart, this partnership is amazing.”
Due to last year’s great success with this open house, Hayden stated that they immediately knew they wanted to host one again this year. She mentioned just how incredible this group of Westwood seniors truly are. Hayden also made it a point to explain to seniors that there are certain trails at Powisset Farm that are senior/family friendly. Those who wanted to could enjoy a relaxing walk on a path that is leveled and easy for strollers.
All in attendance were thrilled with the event overall and raved about how good the fresh food was. It can easily be said that the Westwood COA hopes for this same event next year.
