Powisset Farm ushered in the holiday season with its annual Holiday Haybale Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 2nd. The fully booked event welcomed 300 attendees at no cost, offering a variety of activities for everyone's enjoyment.
Fire pits were strategically placed throughout the farm, providing warmth and an opportunity for all to indulge in marshmallow roasting. Outside the kitchen, S'mores kits were available for purchase, alongside offerings such as fall squash mac and cheese, chili, chili mac and cheese, chips, cookies, hot chocolate, craft beer, wine, and hot toddies.
Following the culinary delights, young participants engaged in festive holiday crafts in the screen room. The craft of the night involved creating Christmas ornaments using pipe cleaners, beads, cranberries, and Cheerios. Children enthusiastically crafted their unique ornaments to take home and adorn their trees.
As an additional treat, the Powisset Farm Store extended its hours, showcasing an assortment of holiday gifts for purchase, with complimentary samples for all attendees.
After sunset, D.A. Hayden, a Trustees' staff member, selected two fortunate children, Claire and William, to illuminate the haybale tree. Addressing the crowd before the countdown, Hayden expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you all so much for coming out tonight. When we first started this event five years ago, we had twelve people show up. Tonight, we are completely sold out and have 300 people here. We are extremely grateful to be a part of this community and excited to start celebrating the holiday season.”
With those words, the countdown commenced, and Claire and William illuminated the stunning haybale tree. The assembled crowd marveled at the spectacle, capturing moments through photos and relishing each other's company. The success of the night leaves everyone optimistic for another splendid Holiday Haybale Tree Lighting event next year.
