Argh Mateys! The first of the month brought an awesome Pirate Party to the Dover Town Library this past Tuesday. Little one’s were able to join Ed the Wizard for an outdoor pirate party which included games, magic tricks, prizes, and a treasure hunt.
Family and friends packed the lawn area in front of the Dover Town Library (DTL), some even dressed as pirates themselves. Ed the Wizard had many games that young ones could participate in, including a ‘swab the deck’ game that all the kiddos loved.
For this specific game, two lines were formed with each team captain at the front. Using a broom, each line went head-to-head, sweeping a whiffle ball to one end of the designated section and back. The first team to have everyone complete the race each won a gold doubloon.
No matter if you won or lost, Ed the Wizard made sure that everyone got multiple prizes. To do this, all the kiddos participated in the much anticipated Treasure Hunt, which happened towards the end of the party.
Each player was given a purple pouch and a treasure map that told them what they needed to find as well as how many of each treasure they could take. Before sending them off to find the treasure hidden around the area, Ed the Wizard told the children, “Now remember, pirates never stole from one another, so be honest about what you take of the treasure.”
With this friendly reminder, the young ones were off on their adventure, absolutely ecstatic about all they got to find and keep. In the treasure chests scattered around, kiddos found compasses, jewelry, tattoos, gold doubloons, and more.
Head of Children Services at the Dover Town Library, Nancy Tegeler, stated that this was the first time a Pirate Party has been thrown here; “I got a grant from the Dover Cultural Council. They gave us two performers this summer that they paid for. I’ve had Ed the Wizard come before, like five years ago, but this is a different program he is doing today. It’s like controlled chaos, but in the best way.”
Overall, all the little one’s had the best time running around and playing with one another. They could not have been more thrilled to show off the pirate hats, doubloons, and all the other goodies that they got.
