Ghouls, witches, princesses, wizards, and creatures of all kids ventured out to Pine Hill Elementary this past Saturday, October 26th to take part in Sherborn’s fourth annual trunk-or-treating event. Trunk-or-treating is an event where adults decorate the back of their cars for Halloween, load up with candy, and come sit in a parking lot for kids to "trick or treat" from car-to-car. Cars wrapped around the streets leading into and out of Pine Hill and the parking lot was filled with families adorned in their Halloween costumes to enjoy this spooktacular event.
The Sherborn Fire Department was on hand, allowing children to explore firetrucks and ambulances while trying on firefighting gear. Interactions with the firefighters added to the excitement. Across the lot in the park, the Sherborn Public Library organized Halloween-themed arts and crafts for children to enjoy either before or after participating in trunk-or-treat.
Aside from scoring delicious treats from each vehicle, children and adults alike delighted in the variety of differently themed trunks that sat in the Pine Hill Elementary School parking lot. Families hosted trunks in a variety of themes such as Disney movies, Hogwarts, sports, and books. Some trunks provided games, such as a witch themed one offered witch hat ring toss, a Candy Land themed one had you jump spaces to reach the trunk, and a donut themed car had you reach for a donut off of a hook to earn your candy. The adults all gravitated to the Delorean time machine replica from Back To The Future on the lot, which was a treat for their inner child.
Children relished the various trunks, crafts, and the opportunity to revel in a beautiful day at the playground. This annual event continues to bring joy and a sense of community to Sherborn as it celebrates the spirit of Halloween.
Events such as these provide such a wonderful opportunity for community engagement, a celebration for the holiday, and good preparation and/or alternatives for young children and those with disabilities to still have Halloween fun. It is safe to say folks of all ages are excited for next years Trunk or Treat.
