Gingerbread joy at the DTL

On Saturday, December 9, the Dover Town Library (DTL) held their third and final Gingerbread House Making session. This event occurs annually, offering multiple sessions for families with children of all ages. The multiple sessions are necessary due to the sheer popularity of event. Even during this last session, the community room was packed with  families as registration was full!

The sessions took place on Tuesday, December 5, Thursday, December 7, both occurring at 3:30pm and the final session on Saturday at 11am. Each session was an hour long, giving the children and their families the perfect amount of time to craft each gingerbread house to their liking.

“It’s an annual event and it’s always so popular,” explained Jill, one of the DTL librarians. She went on to share that, “All of the kids have such a fantastic time. Frankly, we’re not sure who was more fun: the adults or the children! It’s always such a wonderful time.” This was plain to see as parents enjoyed helping their little ones put together the gingerbread houses.

The DTL provided each child with a milk carton, to form the gingerbread house around, graham crackers, icing, and candy, such as Hershey kisses, twizzlers, and candy canes. Some children used each and every piece to create their perfect house, while others nibbled on different pieces of candy while they crafted their festive houses.

Nancy, the children’s librarian, ventured around the room offering assistance to each child and complemented their homes.

Each child left the library with their own perfectly crafted gingerbread house and a smile on their faces. It is safe to say that children of all ages will eagerly await the return of this event next holiday season.
