The winter has gifted New England plenty of cold weather and a few dustings of snow, making for a typically picturesque time of year. Amidst the chill, members of the community are heading to Powisset Farm to enjoy the season to the fullest.

The photogenic property remains a favorite for families and nature lovers — and Powisset’s Fire Pit Saturdays present a perfect opportunity to enjoy it at winter’s peak.

On Saturday, January 21, the familiar scent of campfire smoke permeated the air at Powisset and groups gathered around the fire pit for the unveiling of Fire Pit Saturday.

According to steward Joe Pariser, Powisset’s Fire-pit Saturdays began as a simple way to get outside in winter and enjoy nature. “We have reindeer during winter and year-round barn animals. Our sows just had piglets, so there’s a bunch of them running around,” Pariser pointed out.

A crackling outdoor fire even enticed first-time visitors from Cambridge. The Weiss and Givon families took their toddlers outdoors for a picnic, featuring seasonal food from the farm’s store inside the barn. Cheese, crackers, and vegetable soup helped warm the families up alongside the fire.

Views of the farm at this time of year are not to be missed, and activities for explorative little ones include the StoryWalk or seasonal Reindeer Quest. With much to see, the Weiss family was engrossed in nature. “We’ll be back in the summer!” they proclaimed.

Tickets for a private fire pit include a two-hour time slot for six people. Afternoons are especially perfect for picnics, while a sunset viewing would be best suited for an evening timeslot. Access to a private picnic table, firewood, and a s’mores kit are included with ticket prices. Availability is currently open through mid-March. Pre-registration is required.
