Fall themed fun at the DTL

Little ones were in for a festive fall treat this past Thursday, October 12th, at the Dover Town Library (DTL) as three different fall crafts were set up for all to participate in. Library Staff Members, Wendy and Liz, created and set up these crafts as well as lended a helping hand for those who needed it.

The Community Room was packed with kiddos and their guardians, eager to create some of their own unique fall masterpieces. There were three different tables set up, each containing their own craft and supplies needed for it.

At one table, youngsters could create a monster pinata using tissue boxes, construction paper, pipe cleaners, string and tissue paper. When it came to filling the pinata, that was completely up to them once they brought it home.

Over at the second craft table, little ones could put together their very own fall hedgehog. Pieces of construction paper were already cut out to look like a hedgehog, all kiddos had to do was glue it down on a separate piece of paper. Once this was completed, they were able to decorate the hedgehog however they liked! Some unique pieces they could add included acorns and pinecones brought in from right outside the library.

At the third crafting table, youngsters could get especially spooky and create a little mummy. To do this, they would take a wooden spoon and wrap it in gauze, leaving some room for the googly eyes. They would then use pipe cleaners to add some arms, a marker to add some sort of mouth and, vualà, their very own little mummy was complete!

When discussing the inspiration for each craft, Liz went on to state, “Wendy and I worked together on this one. We looked online for ideas as well as our crafts books. She really liked the pinata and hedgehog so we decided to go for it. In terms of the mummies, we got inspired by last year’s craft that involved making spider webs. That one was really popular last year so we thought we’d do a spin off of that for this year. We really try to have something for different ages, one for our littlest kids, our little kids, and then our bigger kids.”

No matter which craft they created, kiddos had a blast in the process of making them, smiling from ear to ear. Events like these happen year round at the DTL. For more information on some upcoming events, please visit their website at www.dovertownlibrary.org
