Flanked by tie-dye banners hanging from their speakers, Eddy’s Shoe rocked the Dover town green on Tuesday evening, July 23. Playing blues, R&B, classic rock, and jamming in the style of the Grateful Dead, the band played solid originals and covers that were great to hear again.
The members of Eddy’s Shoe are mostly local, having grown up in Dover, Needham, and Millis. They now keep a busy schedule, playing all over Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The energy of the band was infectious, with tight rhythms and impressive solos that made you want to dance. The band benefitted from strong vocals and originals written by Phil Thisse and inventive guitar solos by Dave Porter. Jim Cribby’s flying fingers raced all over the keyboards in monster solos, showing the crowd everything the organ and honky-tonk keyboards could do. Macgreggor Mcgehee kept up a grooving bass line, and, on drums, Oliver Hammerhee kept the groove solid, adding well-placed flourishes. Vocal harmony added to the impressive sound put out by the band.
The band played a range of songs, including thoughtful originals and covers “Where Did You Get Those Shoes?” by Steely Dan, “Wake Up Momma” by the Allman Brothers, an up-tempo “How Sweet it is to Be Loved by You” by Marvin Gaye, and “I Wish Those Days Could Come Back Once More” by Stevie Wonder.
Audience members enjoyed hearing the band’s performance and cheered for their local longtime friends, while enjoying the cooler breezes of the evening. Children played with equipment provided by Knucklebones Games. Smiles were all around!
