Members and guests of the Westwood Woman’s Club enjoyed a delightful day recently with a program by two local watercolor artists, Carol Ahearn and Barbara Gearon, who had a beautiful display of their paintings of iris, lilies, hydrangea, sunflowers, lady slippers and more.
Carol, who first painted in art class at Westwood High School, demonstrated basic techniques of painting with watercolors. She enjoys painting beaches and sand dunes on Cape Cod but also paints spring flowers in memory of her late mother, Alyce Elmes. Her paintings often appear on the cover of the Sunday bulletin at the First Baptist Church.
Barbara showed how acrylics can enhance a watercolor painting. She also explained how modern technology can be used through computer software and copying machines to make greeting cards, note paper, gift tags and address labels. Her work is sold in a few nearby flower shops.
Both artists have exhibited in the local Nature in Art show, sponsored by the Westwood Land Trust. For their talent and love of flowers to be shared with the Westwood Woman’s Club was a very special treat.
The next meeting of the club will be April 21st with a program on nutrition by Wegman’s Market. The previous program was a fun show and tell by members on treasures of international travel.
The Westwood Woman’s Club is always happy to welcome new members. For more information, please call Jean at 781-326-4819 or Barbara at 781-762-7155.
