The Warriors are looking strong as they enter the postseason this week. Last week, girls’ basketball played their final regular season game and were able to achieve an undefeated season with a 20–0 record. They are also the Division 2 defending champions, though the team they defeated in the finals last year, South High Community School, is in a different division this year and will not have a chance at revenge. The Warriors will not have their first postseason game until this Friday, which will take place at the high school at 5:00. They will play the winner of the Canton–Somerset Berkley Regional game that will have taken place on Tuesday night. The Canton Bulldogs have a 6–14 record and are seeded 32nd, and Somerset Berkley is 10–10 and seeded 33rd.
Boys’ basketball had an impressive season as well. Finishing with a 17–3 record, they are sitting in the 8th seed, a massive improvement after last year’s 28th place. They will be playing their first game right after the girls’ team, at 7:00 on Friday, February 27th, in the high school gym. They will be going up against the winner of the Dedham–Bristol-Plymouth Regional Vocational Technical matchup. Dedham has a 13–7 record and is seeded 25th. Bristol-Plymouth also has a 13–7 record but is seeded 40th. Last year, Medfield was knocked out by Greater Lawrence Technical, who last year was 15–8 and seeded 5th, and this year has a 15–7 record and is seeded 12th. If they were to play each other again, it would not be until the semifinals.
Girls’ hockey are entering their tournament seeded 9th. Last year, they had an amazing postseason run, winning the championship as the 13th seed, knocking out 1st-seeded Westwood in the semi-finals. The Warriors are a younger team this year, but have had a fairly good season regardless, finishing at 13–8. It is possible they will face Westwood (1st seed, 19–1) again, and if they do it would be in the final 8. If they face Milton again after beating them in the finals last year, it would be in the finals again. Milton is 2nd-seeded with a 20–1–1 record. But first, the Warriors will have to have defeated 24th-seeded Wayland (6–12–2) at the Canton Ice House on Wednesday. If they won, they will then play the winner of the Nauset Regional–Burlington game at a place and time that will be determined depending on the winners. Nauset Regional is 12–8 and is seeded 8th and Burlington is 5–14 and seeded 25th.
Boys’ hockey had a great season with a 16–4 record, putting them in the 3rd seed. Last year, they had an 18–1–1 record and made it all the way to the finals seeded 2nd, falling to 1st-seeded Nauset Regional, who were 20–0–1. This year, Nauset Regional is seeded 2nd and has a 15–2–3 record. If the Warriors face them again, it will be in the semifinals. The Warriors’ first postseason game will be tonight, where they will play 30th-seeded North Middlesex Regional (5–14–1) at the Franklin Pirelli Veterans Arena at 7:30. If Medfield wins, they will then go up against the winner of the Wakefield Memorial–East Longmeadow game, who are seeded 14th and 19th respectively. The date and location of the Warriors’ game against them will be determined based on which of them wins.
