Warriors win at Dig Pink

On Friday the third, the high school gym was decorated with ribbons

and balloons and flooded with fans in pink for the girls varsity volleyball team’s annual Dig Pink game. Attendees were encouraged to donate money to The Ellie Fund, a Needham-based charity whose website defines their goal as: “to provide essential support services for breast cancer patients to ease the stresses of everyday life, allowing the focus to be on family, recovery and healing.” Those who donated could give a custom amount or purchase a ticket for a 50/50 raffle. Many pink concessions were also sold, from treats to items to wave from the crowd.

The Warriors themselves traded in their blue jerseys for a pink version specially for this game, and the crowd came dressed in tutus, hats, and shirts in many shades of pink.
The Warriors entered this game with an 11–2–0 record against the Wolverines’ 7–3–0. Although Medfield has won the last few times they met, Westwood still played a strong game. The Wolverines suffered from a few miscommunications, but did not roll over despite entering the third set down 2–0. While Medfield left both of the first two sets with a small lead, the teams were going back and forth between a tie and a one-point lead for the Warriors at the end of the third set. However, Medfield was able to secure the final set by two points after an attack by Kendall Larkin, set cleanly by Teagan Clayton.
The Warriors’ next game will be tonight at 6:00pm in Norton. The team’s full schedule can be found at: www.arbiterlive.com.
