The town of Dover gathered in excitement for the annual Dover Days Fair. Every year the fair is held on the second Saturday of September to properly kick off the fall season. The Dover Dash 5K and Fun Run happens during the fair, and this year was especially special because the new Community Center had its ribbon cutting ceremony as well. It was a great day to celebrate the community of Dover.
What caught the eye of most attendees was the large American flag hanging from the ladder of a fire engine. The Sheriff’s office came out to connect to the community and the fire department brought the truck and an ambulance for the kids to explore.

There was endless entertainment for kids. They could run through bounce house obstacle courses, ride an inflatable shark, and see miniature horses from the Norfolk Hunt Club.
The local committees and organizations came out in droves to show the community what they stand for. Between the new Dover Sustainability Committee teaching about the dangers of non-renewable resources, Recycling committee sharing what can be recycled beyond cans and plastic, the Historical Committee valuing historical buildings and those connected to important people, and the Open Space Committee dedicated to preserving the natural landscape, as well as getting the community together for Saturday Strolls. There was also the Dover Foundation that puts on musicals by kids of all ages and abilities. They give scholarships to Dover-Sherborn High School students and haven’t missed a year once. This year they will be performing Fiddler on the Roof, and auditions are next month.
Dover Days provided a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to make themselves known to the community. Between the family-owned landscaping business, a local arborist who can check out those trees you don’t know what to do with, the new kitchen and catering services Reins opening soon, Lala’s fresh food for dogs with ingredients you yourself could eat, and even a trading card booth for the collectors out there, there was truly something for everyone.
Dover Days Fair is always a great day to have fun with family and friends, but the outreach from local businesses and committees make it a can’t miss even. If you couldn’t go, don’t miss it next year.
