Golden Opportunities for Independence (GOFI) recently held its Fall fundraiser and Halloween party. GOFI is an organization based in Walpole that helps provide service dogs to those living with a disability.

The Howl-O-Ween party was hosted at Adams Farm in Walpole and invited everyone to celebrate. Members of the GOFI and Walpole communities were invited to enjoy the fall weather and partake in a few activities. The biggest draw was the costume contest for both humans and canine companions. The competition was tough, with so many good costumes but three came out on top. A set of cowboys, Fluffy and a Gryffindor from “Harry Potter”, two skeletons and a police officer leading ducklings all took home prizes.

GOFI was also working with a new class of puppies and hosting a training session. Puppy raisers were invited to bring their newest puppy to be socialized and trained during the event teaching them not to get distracted by their surroundings. Attendees were invited to watch the training session before joining the trail walk. Attendees joined in on a walk through Adams Farm, taking in the fall foliage and meeting other friends on the trail.

The biggest draw for this all-ages event was socialization with dogs. Many people brought their dogs to help teach them how to interact with people and other animals. This was a great space to meet other pet parents and pick up tips and tricks on training new pups. People were also able to learn more about GOFI and how to get involved with the organization and all they do. Kids loved getting to interact with different types of dogs and seeing their costumes. It was a great opportunity for everyone involved to learn about the organization and have some Halloween fun.

GOFI’s Howl-O-Ween fundraiser was a huge hit for people and dogs of all ages. To help offer service dogs who require them GOFI is always having events and training sessions, as well as looking for volunteers. More information about getting involved and all they offer can be found on their website: gofidog.org.
