Returning for their twenty-second anniversary, Medfield on the Charles, New England’s Premier Auto Show, was at Hospital Road. This classic and custom auto show welcomed an array of cars from vintage to brand new.
Despite the rather humid and drizzly weather conditions, over 400 cars were on display for this event. Crowds of avid car fanatics filed into the fields, some even sporting their favorite car brands like Corvette and Pontiac.
Awards were given out throughout the day and for different categories including: Top 50, Best of Show, Runner up Best of Show, Corcoran & Havlin Award, The IMPERIAL CUP, Antonio Jarvis Prestige Award, Tony Jarvis Red Line Award, The Joel Weinstein Memorial Award, and other speciality trophies for exceptional vehicles. At the beginning of the event, all of these trophies and awards could be seen lined up, ready to be handed out to the lucky winners.
One iconic element of this show was their special feature display: 60 Years of Mustang. Starting production back in 1964, the first Mustangs were considered the 1964 ½ models. This legend continues to live on 60 years laters as Mustang owners showcased how the Pony Car has evolved throughout generations. Those who brought their Mustangs to this show beamed alongside them, eager to discuss the ins and outs of their vehicles.
In honor of this event, the Medfield Auto Show website stated, “Twenty-two years ago we never thought we would grow in size and that we would be filling show fields to capacity, but we have done that and exceeded all our wildest dreams. The crowds of spectators get what they hope for when they come through the gate. Many rare and awesome vehicles you rarely see in one location.”
Director and creator for this event, Charlie Harris, could be seen carting from one end of the event to the other, making sure everything was in place and guests were having the best time. When speaking with him about this massive production, he mentioned, “This takes a whole year to put on. The weather ultimately dictates what happens and who will show up. Normally we have around 900 cars each year and now, with this weather, we probably have a little over 400. People have traveled from New Hampshire, Connecticut, Vermont, really all over. In the old days, I had people travel from Detroit, California, Florida and South Carolina. We really do try our best every year and it's the hobby we like the most.”
Food trucks lined the event for those who wanted to snack while enjoying the view of these amazing cars. Fresh squeezed lemonade and other beverages were also available for purchase. Overall, the 2024 Medfield on the Charles car show was another major success despite the rocky weather. It’s safe to say that many look forward to next year’s car show here in Medfield.
