The Needham High varsity girls lacrosse team extended its unbeaten run to 15 games last week with victories over Dedham (13-1) and Notre Dame Academy (16-11). The latter of the two teams had been ranked #1 by the Boston Globe before their meeting with the Rockets.
It has been a banner season thus far for the Needham girls, who have taken it to their opponents with a dominant 14.8 goals per game and a stingy 5.8 allowed. Their closest competition within the Bay State Conference, Framingham (possessors of a 12.7 GF/G and 9.7 GA/G), sits three games behind the Rockets in the standings.
"It is always a great accomplishment to be recognized as a top team in any sport, and this season's girls lacrosse team has met every challenge so far and has beaten some of the top teams in the state,” said Micah Hauben, Needham High’s Athletic Director. “The athletes and coaches deserve to be commended for all the work that has gone in so far.”
This week will be an important one for the Needham girls, with crucial games against #2-ranked Westwood and #7-ranked Lincoln-Sudbury on the horizon. It is a challenge the Rockets are up to, suggests Hauben. “They also understand there is still a lot of lacrosse to be played,” he said. “Wednesday will be another strong test against Westwood, and as important a game as it is, the true test and goal of the team is to advance out of the D1 South bracket and to make a deep run in the postseason."
