Wellesley Town Band seeks new members

[ccfic caption-text format="plaintext"]

The Wellesley Town Band will start its fourth season with the first rehearsal of the year on Monday, September 19, at 7:00 p.m. in the Wellesley High School band room (50 Rice Street), and new members are especially welcome to come along and join in the fun.

Led by recently retired Wellesley Middle School band director Henry Platt, the band has grown steadily since its founding in 2013 from less than twenty players to around thirty. Players of all ages (grade 8 and upwards) are welcome, no auditions are required - if you have ever played a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument, dust it off and come along. The Band has a real family feel with spouses, in-laws, parents and students all playing together. Anyone interested in joining the band is welcome to sit in at any rehearsal to try it out. Rehearsals are held in the Wellesley High School band room on Mondays 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. from September through mid-June (excluding school holidays).

The Band will be preparing for its popular “Pops”-style Winter Concert to be held in December. In addition to perennial seasonal favorites, this year’s concert program will also feature one of the masterworks of the concert band literature, the beautiful “English Folk Song Suite” by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Another great work on the program will be “Instant Concert” by Harold Walters, which brilliantly condenses thirty all-time favorite melodies into a single three minutes and ten seconds piece! Other performances in the Band’s calendar include playing for MassHort’s Gardeners’ Fair at Elm Bank, Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend concert and fireworks in May, and the Wellesley Recreation Department’s Summertime Concert series at Town Hall in June.
