Hundreds came out to enjoy Cajun-style food, German beer, and live music at a Biergarten last Friday night in Walpole.

Boylston Schul-Verein (BSV), which is Boston’s largest German-American club, hosted the event. BSV has a different-themed Biergarten every fourth Friday of the month during the summer season. This particular Biergarten’s theme was Louisiana Barbecue.

The club, which is based around celebrating German heritage and culture, had a little bit of everything on the cool summer night. Food with a spicy southern flare was washed down with cold König pilsners or Weihenstephaner lagers while people danced to rock and roll hits.

Vice President of Operations Dave Sauer at Boylston Schul-Verein says that on average, a Biergarten can see upwards of 200 people.

“This is great, we love to see a good turn out,” he said.

Young children ran around in the open fields as friends and family sat down on benches, enjoying conversations.

The musical performance featured a wide variety of different songs performed by the band Three of a Kind. Jimi McGee and Ron Taddeo, the nucleus of the band, have been performing together for 50 years and got it started when they were just 20 years old.

“I really like this band I have been listening to them since 1983,” said Elizabeth Mazza, who had come out to see Three of a Kind. “I’m on their mailing list, so I came out here and I thought it would be really nice to come out to Walpole and the German festival.”

The Biergarten had tasty treats, as well, as Fräulein’s Bakery provided authentic German pastries, cakes and cookies.

In addition to more Biergartens still on the schedule this summer, Boylston Schul-Verein also hosts several Sunday all-you-can-eat brunch buffets throughout the year. The club will also be having their annual celebration of Oktoberfest in September, during which they will look to raise funds to build a playground for kids at their location.
