Troop 1 Dover driven by service

Each year, Troop 1 Dover participates in various community service efforts by embracing the Scout Law, “A scout is helpful” and the Scout Slogan, “Do a good turn daily.”

During the last year, Troop 1 Dover participated in a number of community service activities. A few Boy Scouts supported the Dover veterans by participating in the flag ceremony on Veteran’s Day at the Dover American Legion. Boy Scouts were called upon to volunteer as pages in the town meetings. At Dover Land Conservation meetings, the Boy Scouts met elderly citizens near their cars and guided them to the meeting venue through the dark. The Dover Aging Committee called upon the Boy Scouts to help Dover’s elderly citizens by cleaning their yards during the fall. The Boy Scouts participated in the annual Memorial Day parade. The troop also set up and broke down the chairs after the Memorial Day ceremony, as they do each year.

Each scout who earns the highest rank of Eagle also must develop and carry out a public service/leadership project in their community. The Citizenship in the Community merit badge, which is mandatory to achieve the rank of Eagle, requires youth to understand the rights, responsibilities and laws governing their community. Additionally, all rank advancements have a mandatory community service requirement, which motivates and encourages young boys to spend their time working on constructive projects that serve their hometowns.
