The Westwood Young Women’s Club (WYWC) held their 4th annual Harvestfest at Martha Jones Elementary School this past Saturday, October 5th. The day was filled with fall-themed fun and there was certainly something for all the children to enjoy.

Food trucks, some booths and the Westwood Public Library’s Bookmobile lined the street leading up to the entrance of the event. On the field, there were an abundance of stations for the kids and their guardians to choose from, including pumpkin decorating, live music, festive crafts, cookie decorating, a play area, field games, temporary tattoos and more.

Among the most popular stations was the petting zoo that hosted ducks, sheep, goats, chickens, bunnies, guinea pigs and chicks. All proceeds collected from this event went back into the causes that the WYWC support.

President of the WYWC, Sarah Cantley, was seen amongst the crowd lending a helping hand at the different stations. When talking with her about this incredible event, she explained just how great it is to bring the Westwood community together and give the children some fun things to do. “We really lucked out with a beautiful day today,” Cantley stated, “and the weather could not be more perfect. We also have such an amazing turn out which is always so great to see. The WYWC is made up of about 45 women from Westwood and we are focused on community building and outreach. Harvestfest is one of the few events that we do every year. We bring everyone together to just have some fun, get the kids to run around and overall have a great day. We see a need sometimes in our community for activities for children so that is one of the target demographics here.”

It can be said with ease that all in attendance of this event had such a wonderful time. With so many activities to choose from, many families ended up staying for the majority of the day. Cantley, along with WYWC Chair member Stephanie Wilkinson, detailed that the activities each year can vary but they always try to base it off of popularity they saw within the year before.
