Westwood Recreation hosted its annual Fishing Derby last Saturday at Buckmaster Pond in Westwood.
Seventeen adults and between 25-30 kids participated in this year’s Fishing Derby.
“That’s about the average,” said Westwood Recreation Director Nicole Banks. “If the weather was nicer we go above that, but its an average number for this event.”
The annual Fishing Derby challenges Westwood kids and adults to catch the biggest fish possible, with awards given to the youth and adult who catches the largest fish by the end of the three-hour derby on the shores of Buckmaster Pond.
This year, Aaron Wachob took home the top prize in the Kids Division, and Bob Biggins was named the winner in the Adult Division.
Banks noted that the Fishing Derby provides families with a fun experience every year.
“It’s a relaxed atmosphere, and an opportunity [for families] to get together with their kids,” Banks said. “It’s a very popular and long-running event.”
In addition to fishing, the event also featured a concession stand with food for sale.
The Fishing Derby is sponsored by the North Walpole Fish and Game, Westwood Permanent Firefighters Local 1994, and Bass Pro Shops.
