With the weather already feeling like an early spring, Westwood Recreation hosted its annual “March into Summer” open house at Westwood High on March 12.
The annual event kicked off Westwood Recreation’s annual summer registration period. While parents registered their children for summer programs, kids had the opportunity to explore some of Westwood Recreation’s summer program offerings.
The gymnasium was open for a verity of sports as Westwood Rec staff organized games. Large bouncy houses were set up for kids to jump in, and Westwood Rec staff helped kids decorate their own T-shirts and create clay sculptures.
The pool was also open for lap swimming, free swimming and diving. Westwood Rec staff organized impromptu diving competitions as well. Hot dogs and snacks were also on sale to parents and kids.
While the kids enjoyed the various activities, parents were busy meeting with Westwood Recreation employees and instructors and signing their kids up for Westwood Recreation’s summer programs.
Westwood Recreation Director Nicole Banked noted that by the end of the day, she expected to see about 600 people turn out to see what Westwood Recreation has to offer for summer programming. The big turnout was aided in part by the near-record warmth this year, as opposed to last year’s snowstorms.
“We get a large amount of our program registrations this weekend,” Banks said.
