Nearly a ton of recyclable cardboard, bottles, cans, and rigid containers were rescued from the landfill at this year’s Westwood Day. Fairgoers and vendors generally followed the rules of "no food or plastic bags" in the recycling bins, which were paired with trash carts throughout the fairgrounds. The Westwood DPW provided the carts and crew to collect the trash and recycling throughout the day. Pam Kane and Claire Galkowski of the Westwood Environmental Action Committee labelled all the trash and recycling carts, posted signs with instructions, and coordinated with the Nicole Banks at the Rec Department and Todd Korchin and Brendan Ryan at the DPW to make it happen.
