On Wednesday, June 1, Westwood Cares will host an event called “Social Host Liability, What You Need to Know: A Community Event to Address Teen Drinking and Drug Use.” This event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Westwood High School Auditorium. Parents are encouraged to attend the event to learn about this important issue.
Kathi Sullivan will be presenting, “Taylor’s Message.” Passionate about reaching people’s hearts and minds, she shares what happened when her daughter died after a night of binge drinking and poor choices at a series of underage drinking parties.
She speaks about how it could have been prevented and how Taylor’s death has affected her family, Taylor’s friends and the community.
Next, Westwood resident and lawyer, Marianne LeBlanc will speak about the legal side of social host responsibility, as well as the moral issues around this important topic.
Finally, a community panel consisting of Westwood Police Chief, Jeffrey Silva, Westwood High School Principal Sean Bevan, Thurston Middle School Principal Allison Borchers and Westwood Youth & Family Services Interim Director Sarah Baroud, will answer audience questions and offer strategies for parents and for the larger Westwood community about to keep our young adults safe.
Westwood Cares is an organization dedicated to providing information and resources to the families of Westwood, Massachusetts, regarding substance use and abuse, as well as related issues.
Westwood Cares works towards the healthy and safe development of our youth, while providing assistance to families in need of support. The organization consists of a wide range of representatives from the community, including parents, students, educators, and community officials.
