The Westwood Young Women’s Club hosted its annual Touch-a-Truck event at Westwood High School on June 11.
With trucks and vehicles from a number of agencies and companies, hundreds of kids and families turned out to enjoy a day of exploring and learning.
From backhoes to dump trucks to police cars and fire trucks, the fun event provided kids with plenty to do. From sitting in the front seat of a police cruiser to climbing to the top of a tow truck, the annual event is always a fun time for kids and families.
Those that arrived when the event began at 10 a.m. enjoyed an hour of quiet time, as the WYWC offered a “no horns” hour for infants and young children who might be startled by loud horns and sirens. After that the air was filled with sounds of horns, sirens and more.
“The Westwood Young Women’s Club puts this event on every year,” said Westwood Young Women’s Club member Julie MacDonald. “It’s been going on for many years.”
MacDonald noted that this year is no exception, pointing to high turnout despite the threat of showers in the afternoon.
Every year, the Westwood Young Women’s Club hosts this fun event for the community to raise money to benefit the Westwood community. This year, funds raised through the Touch-A-Truck event will go to two causes: supporting the Westwood Early Childhood Council, and maintenance of the School Street Playground.
With the Touch-a-Truck event out of the way, the Westwood Young Women’s Club is already looking ahead to its next two major fundraising events. The annual summer concert series will kick off in July, and the Westwood Young Women’s Club will be hosting a new event this year: a Town-Wide Yard Sale Day on October 15.
