The Westwood Council on Aging hosted their annual Summer BBQ this past Tuesday, June 27th. This kickoff to summer celebration included your traditional barbecue food like that of hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, watermelon, and more!
The room was overflowing with ecstatic seniors who could be seen smiling and chatting with one another. While enjoying all the food that was provided, seniors had the opportunity to listen to music by guitarist Chris Carter.
Director of Westwood Council on Aging, Lina Arena-DeRosa, was seen making sure everyone had something to eat and was enjoying their time at the event. Those in attendance could not have spoken more highly of Lina and all that she does for the Westwood COA. One senior specifically stated that every event that Lina plans is always an exceptional time.
If music and food was not enough, there was also an array of raffle prizes given out towards the end of the lunch. Each senior was given a raffle ticket upon arrival and numbers were called out for those lucky winners to receive a gift basket or a gift card. While we know the raffle was not rigged in any way, seniors had a good chuckle when select board member Joe randomly picked his wife’s ticket as the first winner.
It is safe to say this summer BBQ was a major success. All who participated in the event were completely thrilled with the experience and time together. Lina specifically stated, “To me, I do not usually eat hotdogs or hamburgers during the winter, but there is something about a grilled hotdog or hamburger for summer that really kicks it off. We are so glad to have everyone here with us this afternoon.”
