Girl Scouts help seniors this season

The Westwood Council on Aging (COA) welcomed back Girl Scout Troop 66073 to help wrap presents. This is the second year the Scouts have stopped by to help wrap gifts for people in the community who may need assistance with tasks such as these.

Troop 66073 is made up of four Westwood High School seniors who really love giving back to the community. Before they started wrapping at the COA they provided their services to homeless shelters in Boston and the surrounding areas. They love coming out to the COA as they get to check in with the community and offer a helping hand.

The members of the COA really enjoyed this event, especially those who struggle with the fine motor skills required to wrap a gift. They got to ask the Scouts for opinions on gifts for their friends and family and talk about the upcoming holidays. The Scouts hope to return again next year to continue offering help wrapping up gifts for the COA.

Troop 66073 really loves opportunities to give back to the community. They have been hard at work since the pandemic to return to community events such as gift wrapping, and are moving forward to bake cupcakes for local shelters. They have been Girl Scouts for most of their lives, ingraining the values of being a scout into their everyday lives. As they look forward to college the kindness and giving nature that being a scout has taught them carries on.

The COA and its members love it when the Troops stop by. Members really loved getting to have deep and meaningful conversations with the girls about their future plans and their wrapping techniques. Having someone else wrap the presents took away a level of holiday stress for many people, who are now able to focus on celebrations and not the daunting task.

The COA always has events tailored to help seniors with certain tasks. They offer events that focus on fall prevention, online safety and so much more. Gift wrapping with the Girl Scouts is just one the COA makes life easier for the seniors in Westwood.
