For its first meeting of 2017-18, the Westwood Garden club was treated to a lunch at Powisset Farm in Dover.
D.A. Hayden, general manger of Powisset Farm, gave a talk about the farm. She then introduced Chef Didi Emmons, who did a cooking demonstration and had her cookbook for sale. While Chef Emmons was preparing a delicious soup using organic vegetables and herbs grown on the farm, Hayden demonstrated short and easy ways to cut the fall vegetables.
There were about 25 members who enjoyed the menu of soup, salad, and a desert of baked apples with trimmings and whipped cream.
Powisset Farm in Dover is administered by the Trustees of Reservations.
The next Garden Club meeting will be held on October 26 at the COA at 1:30 p.m. A speaker from Wegman's will give a presentation on the merits of organic foods.
