Local families gathered last Saturday, August 26, at University Station for a final summer celebration. The End of Summer Block Party, hosted by University Station and situated between Wegmans and Target, marked the conclusion of the season. The radiant sun illuminated the attendees, creating an ideal setting for this summer-ending event.

Spanning two hours, the block party featured a diverse array of activities, including face painting, balloon artistry, an obstacle course, giant Jenga, oversized Connect Four, tetherball, cornhole, and inflatable bouncing animals. The latter, particularly beloved by attending children, proved a standout attraction. Attendees eagerly queued for complimentary servings of frozen Del’s lemonade, offering a refreshing reprieve from the August heat. Wegmans provided coloring pages, stickers, applesauce pouches, and fruit snacks to the young guests, ensuring they remained energized throughout the event.

Amid the crowd, a DJ provided a musical backdrop blending both classic and contemporary tunes, prompting families to groove along. Children reveled in laughter, play, and dance, embracing the diverse entertainment at University Station. Adults engaged in conversations, relishing each other's company and the delightful weather.

The School on Wheels of Massachusetts established a dedicated booth to collect unused school supplies, including backpacks, pencils, pencil sharpeners, pencil pouches, erasers, glue sticks, highlighters, plastic rulers, washable markers, and composition notebooks. Beyond reveling in the festivities, many families went above and beyond by contributing to their local community through these school supply donations.

The event's rich assortment of activities, combined with the spirit of giving, perfectly encapsulated Rebekah Macchia's aspirations. As the marketing director of University Station, she aimed to foster a sense of fun and community cohesion, an objective definitively achieved.

Undoubtedly, the occasion provided an indelible conclusion to the summer, offering families an unforgettable experience before the advent of the new school year.
