The Westwood Library’s Islington Branch has been hosting drop-in activities on Monday afternoons. These activities change every week and everyone is allowed to show up and participate. These events are low-stress ways for kids to have fun within the library.
On Monday, August 5, they offered coloring sheets in varying levels of detail. Along with printed sheets coloring books were also laid out for patron use. Colored pencils, crayons and markers were offered to use in filling out the sheets. The designs ranged to appeal to different age ranges, including adults.
The small table saw a lot of artists during the activity time all filling out their coloring sheets differently. Summer themes carried through the different options including beach scenes, campfires, summer creatures and more. There was no wrong way to fill in the designs which led to lively conversation at the table as kids compared colors and sheets.
These drop-in events are a great way to get kids more involved with the library system as they are able to explore the library while having fun with new friends. The Islington Branch is smaller than the main Westwood Library which makes it less overwhelming for younger children to learn about the library. The activities can be a great way to get kids through the door in a low-stress way before the school year begins.
Each week the Islington Branch will offer a new activity from 3-5 pm. These can be anything, so stopping by to find out is always worth it. No registration is required and all ages are welcome to participate. The drop-in series is a great way to pack an afternoon full of fun and surprises. The series will be continuing through September, and more information about them can be found on the Westwood Library website and social media.
