The Boston Marathon is one of the most iconic and famous sporting events in the entire world, with all of those who take part in it running for their own personal reasons or beliefs. In 2017, one local athlete will take to the streets of Massachusetts on Patriots Day and run for what she hopes will benefit not only those close to her, but people all over the world.

24-year-old Faith Richardson, a Wellesley native and graduate of Princeton University, is running the 26.2 mile course for the first time at this year’s Boston Marathon. Faith is running on Team Joslin Diabetes Center in support of her brother, Ed, a type-one Diabetes patient of Dr. Lori Laffel at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. Ed graduated from Boston College in 2016, where he played on the school’s club lacrosse team, and is currently enrolled in the Immunology Graduate Program at Harvard Medical School with the goal of becoming a surgeon.

Faith is preparing for the marathon by running 5-6 days a week around South Boston where she currently resides, and continuing to row, which she did for four years at Princeton. It’s also worth noting that Faith works full-time in downtown Boston, so all of the training and hard work she is currently putting into this year’s marathon is being done during a grueling short stint of time when she is normally already exhausted from a full day of work.

“My brother and my family have a deep appreciation for Joslin and all they have done to help keep Ed alive and healthy,” said Richardson. “As a lifelong athlete, running the Boston Marathon for Team Joslin was the perfect way to demonstrate my support.”

Faith’s goal is to raise $7,500 for Joslin’s “High Hopes Fund” and hopes that every dollar she raises will go towards making a difference in the lives of families everywhere who deal with diabetes, just as Joslin did for her family.

At the time of print, Faith and her team have met 58% of their goal with $4,358 raised so far. To donate and help Faith on her journey to Boylston Street, visit https://www.crowdrise.com/JoslinDiabetesCenterBoston2017/fundraiser/faithrichardson.

Best of luck to Faith Richardson on Marathon Monday.
