Local runners are gearing up for the 2017 Wellesley Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run, a community road race that has become a beloved Thanksgiving Day tradition. This year’s race will take place on Thursday, November 23 at 8 a.m. in Linden Square. With less than two months until race day, organizers are encouraging runners to sign up now as the race sells out every year. The online signup link is www.wellesleyturkeytrot.racewire.com.
The race is managed by the Wellesley Turkey Trot Foundation, Inc., a grass-roots non-profit organization dedicated to engaging the community in physical fitness and supporting local charities in the areas of cancer and medical research, education, and community service.
Local singer and songwriter Candy O’Terry is returning to perform the National Anthem. One hundred percent of all race entry proceeds are awarded to local charity partners.
The Foundation is currently looking for non-profit groups and organizations to be considered as race beneficiaries. All applicants must submit information by Sunday, October 15. They must have charitable (501(c)(3) designation with filings up to date and provide a detailed explanation of how a grant would further their work and positively impact the community. “In the past three years, we have been thrilled to donate more than $220,000 to charities that fit our mission and improve our community,” said Carol Chaoui, Wellesley Turkey Trot Foundation, Inc. board president. “Our award beneficiaries include the Wellesley Scholarship Foundation, Wellesley Education Foundation, Wellesley A Better Chance (ABC), Friends of Wellesley METCO, Wellesley High School Bridge Program, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Children’s Hospital Boston and more.”
