Nelson Hammer exhibiting in Wellesley

Needham landscape architect and artist Nelson Hammer is exhibiting 38 of his watercolor paintings from July 3 through August 30 at the Wellesley Public Library. All the works shown are birds, based on photographs taken by friends, relatives, and by the artist himself. He recently received permission to interpret the photographs of professional wildlife photographer Glenn Bartley, and four of Nelson’s more recent creations are brilliantly colored tropical species based on Glenn Bartley photographs taken during his journeys through Central and South America, such as the Chestnut-backed Tanager, Multi-colored Tanager, Green Honeycreeper, and Resplendent Quetzal.

Nelson strives for accuracy in his work, producing highly detailed paintings that reflect the color and proportions of his subjects to the best of his ability.

The library is located at 530 Washington Street in Wellesley. For further information, call (781-235-1610).
