On Wednesday October 7, 2026, golfers from Walpole (9-3) and Milton (9-4) high schools matched cards at the Walpole Country Club.

Both teams had already qualified for the Sectionals.

This is the best Walpole boys team that head coach Bob Travers has had in his six year tenure.  Earlier this season they defeated Wellesley for the first time decades.  Along with a quality varsity squad, Travers has built a junior varsity program and a boosters program.

Walpole’s 2026 captains are seniors Nico Govoni and Zach Mattera.  Mattera is also President of the Student Council.

There is no official Bay State Conference (BSC) team championship tournament.  Instead, all of the conference schools submit three players to play in a stroke play tournament to determine who the league all-stars will be for the season.  This year’s tournament is scheduled for Braintree Country Club on Thursday October 15.

Milton won Wednesday’s match under the new stroke play scoring system for the Bay State Conference, 235-245.  The Timberwolves were led by freshman Henry Henjes’ 38 (+3), sophomore Will Cuqua’s 38 and senior Nico Govoni’s 39.

The Timberwolves were coming off a match against Brookline the previous day on the Primrose Course at The Country Club.

Walpole was struck an unfortunate blow when junior Alex Scales broke his wrist earlier this autumn. But the depth of the entire team holds promise for success in the rest of the fall season.

Walpole, with the lowest enrollment of any Division 1 school, will be competing in the Division 1 Central sectionals on October 19 at Kettle Brook Golf Club in Paxton.

The state tournament will be held at Wellesley Country Club on October 26.

There are positive changes coming to Massachusetts high school golf in 2027 including moving to stroke play for all matches statewide.  With all schools on the same scoring methodology, golf will move to be more like other Massachusetts’ high school sports with power rankings based on a ratings system.  Sectionals will be eliminated in favor of five divisional meets followed by an All-State Championship.
