Walpole’s newest park gets an addition

The newest park in Walpole has a new addition. Spring Brook Park in the town center near the field adjacent to Town Hall and East Street added a new covered picnic space under the ramada.

The ramada was dedicated in September, but lacked one feature – a picnic bench. The Trails Committee, headed by Gary Riggott, realized that feature was needed and set out to correct the omission.

The Trails Committee had some funds left over from the original effort to put up a trails kiosk in the park; enough to buy materials for a wheelchair accessible picnic table.

Michael Barrett, a Boy Scout and Youth Leader from Epiphany Parish, wanted to use his carpentry talents to help the town. Mike is a student at Tri-County Vo-Tech. Michael and Gary teamed up and, with town permission, built a beautiful picnic bench and installed it under the ramada, which had been generously donated by the Lions Club.

There is now a lovely bench for a family to enjoy, even when the weather is a bit off-putting, to have a lunch or supper in our new park space.

It is easily accessed from the municipal parking lot or the lot behind town hall and has a nice view of the bridge and brook. The addition was made possible thanks to Gary and Mike..

Come on out and enjoy the park this summer.
